Keep your fingers out of my code - it is my code !!!!!!!!!!

It is really funny. We behave like little children in many situations, also when it's going about the code we have written. What is your reaction when your buddy tells you he wants to refactor the code you wrote? Yes, exactly, that code. The code you have been writting last 3 weeks. The code you have thought about last few weeks. The code - your baby.
IT IS MINE!!!!!!! DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!!!
Is the code really only your baby? Does it belong only to you? Why are you nervouse about that?

  1. The Code belong to the Team, not to you! Every can refactor it.

    1. You are right but there is a special relation between creator and creature. You should be careful dealing with the creator, he/she could have different point of view.

    2. Then remove @author form your Code and use one user for all people in your Version Control System ;)

  2. Individual code ownership has obvious positives for the whole team, how can you not see them? If something is wrong, you are the one to blame, so you code better. Someone else than author is also more likely to break the code, or just destroy your vision of how it should be extended later on.

  3. @jeffsawtooth,interesting point of view. Good that you have pointed out the positives of individual code ownership. Your comment is very good extension. My intention is to point out the response to change, the reaction of individuals to change. There are people they use the argument "It is mine" just to avoid any change.
